“Fire & Ice” –October, 18Th World Premiere

"Fire & Ice", the first movie produced by a Romanian company for the American market, will have its world premiere on the 18th of October, on the US Sci-Fi Channel.

Filmed last year, MediaPro Pictures' production is a fantasy built upon the foundation of a classical fairytale: a prosperous kingdom, Carpia, is attacked by a fire dragon which burns down everything on its way. When the king strongly loses all hope, his daughter, princess Luisa helped by Gabriel, the son of an outcast knight, save the kingdom.

"Fire & Ice" brings together famous names of the international cinema: princess Luisa is interpreted by Amy Acker ("Alias", "Supernatural"), Tom Wisdom ("300", "The Sisterhood of Travelling Pants 2") plays Gabriel, John Rhys-Davies ("Lord of the Rings", "Victor Victoria", "Indiana Jones") stepped for a month into the shoes of the magician Sangimel, Gabriel's friend and confident, while Arnold Vosloo ("Mummy", "Blood Diamond") decides to step across on the good side, as he plays King Augustin. They were joined by a great team of Romanian actors such as Razvan Vasilescu, who plays Paxian Ru, Oana Pelea as Queen Remini, Loredana Groza, playing the part of Lila, the nanny and the princess' friend, Ovidiu Niculescu as King Qiulock and Cabral Ibacka as Pontiero, the King's worthy advisor.
Jean Cristophe Comar, the production director, is also one of the most renowned VFX producers; among his works stand the "Grosse Fatigue" for which he won an award at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. Movies like "Alien: the Resurrection", "Delicatessen" and "La cite des enfants perdus" were also signed by him as the VFX Director.

"Fire & Ice" marks another premiere: it is the first movie for which the entire VFX part was created in Romania, by MediaPro Magic, the post-production division of MediaPro Studios. The team of 41 members, coordinated by Tony Willis, have worked for 8 months on this movie. "Usually, for a production like this we have around 150 VFX shots, but for "Fire and Ice we created 532" says Tony. "Of course the dragons were the biggest challenge, but the VFX pallet includes castles, ice layers, a salt mine and even mountains."
And since there are only 2 days left until the world premiere of the movie, the MediaPro Magic team decided to reveal some behind the scenes moments of their work. You can see the trailer at www.fireandice.ro and also the stages the dragons went through from sketch to screen.
