MEDIAPRO MAGIC CONTRIBUTES TO “SAW” FRANCHISE GRAND FINALE
MediaPro Magic, the MediaPro Studios VFX division was selected to work on the latest installment in the "Saw" series - Saw VII 3D - that premiered in the US on October 29th and became the box-office leader for the Halloween weekend.
The film - a production of Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate Films
- sees a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of
self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own
dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror as a deadly battle rages
over Jigsaw's brutal legacy.
Following the implementation of the Stereoscopic 3D development and
production workflow in early 2010, MediaPro Magic successfully
pitched its participation to the project and was subsequently
sub-contracted by the project's lead visual effects facility,
Toronto-based Switch VFX. For its first feature film work in 3D,
MediaPro Magic contributed compositing shots to the project and
delivering the finished product before schedule despite a very
intense creative feedback by the film's director and creative
team.
This was not MediaPro Magic's first stereoscopic 3D work, it
having worked on numerous other smaller projects such as short
movies, commercials or music videos, but it was the first that had
to comply with the rigors of a Hollywood product meant for global
distribution. "It was nothing new, per se" Tony Willis, MediaPro
Magic's Managing Director said "but almost everything, from the
source material to the scheduling to the demands put on the
finished product were taken up a notch. And we're happy to report
we lived up to everyone's expectations, including our own, with
time to spare."
The work confirms MediaPro Entertainment's commitment to be on
the forefront of the media industry in the region, both on a
technical and content level, with what began as a future-proofing
effort in early 2009 now having blossomed into a functional
creative and commercial enterprise, ready to spearhead the move to
stereoscopic 3D as a product, rather than just visual effects work.
MediaPro Magic has, since its inception, worked on dozens of
projects, both internal and third party, adding its share of extra
production value that has been the trademark of all MediaPro
content.
