MediaPro Studios – shot “The Whistleblower” and “Bunraku” presented at the Torornto International Film Festival

“THE WHISTLEBLOWER”, shot at MediaPro Studios will be screened as a special presentation at the International Toronto Film Festival.

"The Whistleblower", hosted by MediaPro Studios last fall, was a very special project for director Larissa Kondracki. Although her first major feature, the impact and importance of the story gathered around her an impressive cast, including Rachel Weisz, Vanessa Redgrave, Monica Bellucci or David Strathairn.

Shot at the studios and around Bucharest, the film depicts the real-life story of Nebraska police officer Kathryn Bolkovac who joins the international police force and heads to a Bosnia still reeling from the horrors of the Yugoslav civil war. Reaching an eminently male-dominated place, she begins to uncover a shockingly wide-spread human trafficking network that often operates under the lenient eyes of the international peacekeepers.

Kathryn (played by Academy-Award winner Rachel Weisz) enlists on a personal crusade, with the little (and a lot of times unofficial) support the local NGO director (Monica Bellucci) and the UN Commissioner (Vanessa Redgrave) can provide her, that gets her to make enemies out of criminals and colleagues alike. Her efforts will make her an outcast with the peacekeeper, but manage to bring the situation to the attention of the press (at first) and the international justice system.

The festival will host (in the "Midnight Madness" section) the action-fantasy film"Bunraku"- also shot at the MediaPro Studios with a star-studded cast including Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman, Demi Moore and Kevin McKidd. With a grand budget and original vision, the movie blends Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns with German impressionist cinema and the latest CGI visual techniques for a frantic and pop-violent trip under the direction of Guy Moshe.
