Work Practices
In Romania, there are no unions in the cinema industry.
The most common work practices include:
- 12-hour shooting day, which includes 1 hour for lunch
- The cast and crew are always driven to and from the studios or the shooting location.
- Night shoots are not subject to any additional crew costs.
- Overtime applies only to the technical crew and it is calculated as 1.5 x hourly rate.
- For longer projects, we generally recommend 11-day fortnights, to keep the crew in good shape.
- The cast, extras and crew are contracted through MediaPro Pictures, a related party of the Studio, at a rate that includes all fringes or relevant taxes.
- The production generally provides meals for crew during both prep and shoot.
Holidays
The minimum statutory annual leave allowance in Romania is 20 days, as laid down by the EU working time directive.
There are also eight public holidays: the 1st and 2nd of January, the Sunday and the following day on the Eastern Orthodox Easter, the 1st of May (Labor Day), the 25th and 26th of December and the 1st of December (National Holiday).
